 Last weeks prep race:

 Bluegrass Stakes at Keenland (4/15)

Showing Up, making just his third lifetime start and first in a stakes, earned himself a spot in the Kentucky Derby with a late-finishing, 1 1/4 length victory in front of Kentucky Derby contender Like Now.  Undefeated in two starts prior to Saturday's race, Showing Up was coming off a track-record setting victory in a one mile allowance race at Gulfstream Park.

 The Derby Trial is scheduled this weekend at Churchill Downs.  Mister Triester is a longshot to rebound off a strong Derby Trial into the Kentucky Derby,

 Notes and tidbits

  • Sharp Humor and Sinister Minister with both set the pace. The question is when will the other horses break for the lead.
  • Thirteen horses have come into the Derby with 3 triple digit Beyer speeds.  The best finish was Captain Bodgit in 1997.
  • Both Brother Derek and Sweetnorthersaint have four triple digit Beyer Speeds.
  • Two horses are coming into the Derby undefeated, Barbaros and Showing Up.
  • No horse with over a Million dollars in Graded Stakes Earnings has won the Derby.  Brother Derek falls into the category.
